Mr Kruusamägi provided the opportunity to visit his farm.
In February, the association PeaceBread (Friedensbrot e. V.) received an invitation of the Ministry of Agriculture to join the 3rd International Agroforum Mare Balticum as an observer. Following a decision of the association’s board, members of the PeaceBread office Marion and Gibfried Schenk travelled to Tartu.
Rye is the Estonian national cereal and staple food of Estonians. But for all that wheat has become a strong competitor, rye bread still ranks first on Estonian breakfast tables until today. During times of the Hanseatic league, rye export was one of the most important financial sources for the Tallinn Towers. It was registered as late as 1772 that rye made up two thirds of all grain exports from Tallinn.
6 September was the day: In the presence of representatives of the association “FriedensBrot e.V.” (“PeaceBread”), rye which was harvested in Berlin this year was sown next to the traditional rye variety ‘Sangaste’ on trial fields of the Institute of Plant Breeding in Jõgeva. On this occasion, the Director of the Institute Mati KOPPEL and Dr. Gibfried SCHENK gave interviews to the local press.
We are delighted to report that Minister Helir-Valdor SEEDER has accepted the invitation of FriedensBrot e.V. (Association PeaceBread) to participate personally in the conference and ceremonial act “Peace and Agriculture” in Berlin on 30 September and 1 October 2014.
Department head Mr Ruve Šank of the Estonian Ministry of Agriculture used the opportunity of a visit to Berlin to talk to representatives of the PeaceBread office. In the course of the conversation, the communication on the “PeaceBread” project during International Green Week in Berlin in January 2014 was discussed. Estonia will be the Partner Country of Green Week next year.
In his reply letter to the German Federal Minister AIGNER, Minister SEEDER says: “Your proposal to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Wall in such a symbolic and strong way touches me deeply. In Estonia, we indeed highly appreciate the meaning of this event which happened 25 years ago. Without this fall of the Wall, regaining the independence of the Republic of Estonia would have remained the unthinkable.
Mrs Tiina PAJU (Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia) announces the participation of Estonia in the project in a telephone call. Project contact in Estonia is Mr Herr Ruve ŠANK (Head of Division in the Estonian Ministry of Agriculture). Mr ŠANK confirms the participation of Estonia in writing on 4th April 2013.
