Association PeaceBread (FriedensBrot e.V.) is pleased to announce today active engagement of all counties, which were asked for participitation in PeaceBread project. We have been able to send the rye seeds to all countries in the meantime, all of them having appointed concrete contact persons for growing the rye.
Following an invitation of the Latvian Embassy in Germany and the Board of Commerzbank AG, Latvian Prime Minister Valdis DOMBROVSKIS gave a speech on the issue of „Latvia: The right time to introduce the EURO“ in the Berlin Offices of Commerzbank at Pariser Platz on 3 July 2013.
The Dean of Faculty of Farming and Gardening of the Humboldt University and member of the board of association FriedensBrot e.V. (PeaceBread), Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. Frank ELLMER, assisted Mrs Christina-Luise ROSS in packaging and mailing of PeaceBread rye seed.
Another step on the way of rye growth in middle and south eastern European countries and Germany for PeaceBread initiative: Today we got information, that rye seeds arrived in Czech Republic and Hungary.
Mrs Greti BORIJEVIC, Legate – Embassy Counsellor of the Embassy of Slovenia in Berlin, informs that rye cultivation will be realised in Biotechnical School of Rakičan (BIOTEHNIŠKA ŠOLA RAKIČAN) in Murska Sobota.
Mrs Dorota Białczak, counsellor of embassy in the Polish embassy in Berlin, and Marion and Gibfried Schenk, PeaceBread office, exchanged information on the latest developments with regard to the “PeaceBread” project. Poland will participate in the conference and the ceremonial act with own contributions on 30th September and 1rst October 2014.
Department head Mr Ruve Šank of the Estonian Ministry of Agriculture used the opportunity of a visit to Berlin to talk to representatives of the PeaceBread office. In the course of the conversation, the communication on the “PeaceBread” project during International Green Week in Berlin in January 2014 was discussed. Estonia will be the Partner Country of Green Week next year.
Michelle OBAMA, United States First Lady, on June, 19th together with doughters Malia and Sasha visited The Berlin Wall Memorial - the central memorial site of German division, located at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse.
Today, a letter of the Hungarian Minister fur Rural Development, Dr Sandor FAZEKAS, arrived at the PeaceBread office as personal confirmation of his appreciation of and the participation of Hungary in the “PeaceBread” project.
Minister FAZEKAS emphasised: „Hungary is proud of its active and distinguished role with regard to the fall of the Berlin Wall and looking forward to its particular participation in the PeaceBread activities next year.”
Students of North Carolina State University visited the Berlin Wall Memorial on 16th June 2013 on the occasion of the „Long Day of City Nature“. The group is staying at Karls-University in Prague for a one month study visit and came to Berlin for a weekend. Members of the board of the association FriedensBrot e.V. (PeaceBread), retired priest Manfred FISCHER and Prof. Frank ELLMER, welcomed the students and their advisor Prof. Robert B. PATTERSON at the Chapel of Reconciliation and explained the concept of the memorial.
Mrs Ana ENE, Conselor to the Minister of Romanian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development, informed, that Central Laboratory for Quality of Seed and Planting Material (CLQSPM, Laboratorul Central pentru Calitatea Seminţelor şi a Materialului Săditor - L.C.C.S.M.S.) will be the coordinator of PeaceBread rye cultivation in Romania.
The responsible person will be General Director Mrs Cristina GAFTON.
During the annual conference of “Fördergesellschaft Albrecht Daniel THAER(*)” members of the association FriedensBrot e.V. (PeaceBread) visited the oldest Permanent Rye Trial worldwide. These trials have been continuously conducted by Martin-Luther-University in Halle-Wittenberg since 1878 and for almost 150 years now.
Board meeting of association FriedensBrot e.V. met on June, 11 and starts to plan celebrations and conference on "Peace and Bread in Europe" as a highlight for the intrested public, for politics and media in 2014. Participating countries and organisations will be invited to 2014 summit on September, 30 and October, 1 in Berlin.
The COUNTYCIRCLE – a discussion group in the capital addressing issues related to countryside, urban areas and agriculture – stopped at the rye field at the Chapel of Reconciliation on Bernauer Straße in Berlin on Saturday, 8 th June 2013, during an excursion on “Urban Gardening/Urban Farming”.
