Bulgaria 13./14.01.2014: PeaceBread project on conference agenda

The National Grain Producers Association of Bulgaria held a two-day seminar on 13th-14th of January near the city of Veliko Tarnovo. The event was focused on certain agricultural issues, however, it was seized the opportunity to present PeaceBread Project to the audience. The deputy chairman of the NGPA, Mr Angel VUKODINOV, presented the PeaceBread initiative.

On the death of priest Manfred Fischer

Manfred Fischer, priest and highly committed chairman of the Verein Friedensbrot e.V. (association „PeaceBread”), has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 65 on December 6, 2013.

Representatives of the office association „PeaceBread“ visit Szarvas in Hungary

The Research Institute for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Irrigation(HAKI), based in Szarvas (Hungary), is the partner for growing the Hungarian “PeaceBread” rye.

The rye is grown next to Hungarian rye varieties on a trial field of the Institute, the research site in Szarvas featuring one of the largest and oldest lysimeter complexes in Europe.

Here are some new pictures from our rye fields. The photos were taken on 23rd of October. This is the national memory day of  the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight of 1956. This is a national holiday since 1989. In the year of 1956 the first major revolt against the Soviet control in Central and Eastern Europe was done by the Hungarian People.

Royal Support for „PeaceBread“ in Estonia

Rye is the Estonian national cereal and staple food of Estonians. But for all that wheat has become a strong competitor, rye bread still ranks first on Estonian breakfast tables until today. During times of the Hanseatic league, rye export was one of the most important financial sources for the Tallinn Towers. It was registered as late as 1772 that rye made up two thirds of all grain exports from Tallinn.

A great day for PeaceBread project in Romania: The full report of 2013, Oct.10

Considering the premises of the project, which aims to promote and raise awareness on the idea that sustainable agriculture, welfare and happiness can only be achieved in peacetime, the team from Romanian Ministry of Agriculture, together with the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile, the main partner of the project, decided that the rye seeds from the “Death zone” in Berlin should be planted on a field from the former village Rubla, Brăila County.

Rakičan near Murska Sobota: “PeaceBread” rye also sown in Slovenian soil

“Seeding of the rye took place on Thursday, 10 October 2013, on the field of the school. In addition to Borellus, we have sown five more varieties which are grown in Slovenia.”

On Tuesday, 15 October 2013, the Slovenian Minister of Agriculture, Dejan ŽIDAN, the German Ambassador to Slovenia, Dr. Anna Elisabeth PRINZ, the director of the school Štefan SMODIŠ, the mayor Anton ŠTIHEC, the director of the Fund of Agricultural Areas and Forested Land, Irena ŠINKO, and the student Doroteja FARTEK conducted a symbolic seeding of rye on the field of the school.

Jan KRAIC, Plant Production Research Center Piestany informs about sowing of PeaceBread rye in Slovakia on 09.10.2013:

Sowing was done on the area 720 m2, at the parcel "Široký chvost" no. 1460,  in cadaster of village Víglaš (GPS - N 48 31 34, E 19 19 21).

»Further to your letter I am pleased to say that the seeds of rye crop is sown and sprouted. Enclosed I send a picture. As for information the crop is sown in the field in eastern Croatian region of Slavonia in Osijek.Osijek is a city in eastern Croatia. Located in a valley on the right bank of the river Drava between 16 th and 24 th kilometer of the mouth of the Danube. The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in a Partnership with The Institute for the Investigation of Communism Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile, the National Museum of Agriculture, the International Centre of Studies on Communism and the National Village Museum “Dimitrie Gusti” will organize an Exhibition and Press Conference in Symbolic place Rubla (Brăila County, Baragan Plain) on 10.10.2013.
